Everything at Holland Cox is designed and handcrafted by designer Valerie Williams from her original patterns. The collection includes seven handbag styles and more than a dozen accessories, with two full collections of one-of-a-kind handbags presented twice a year, and new colorways for the limited edition accessories year-round. After several months of rushing home every day after work to sit at my sewing machine or in front of my sketch pad, it occurred to me that my quarter-life crisis might be over. My revelation: I really just want to sew all day long. One day, I threw together scraps from two skirts I had just made, and an old pair of pants I had recently converted to shorts. What I got was the very first Holland Cox handbag, although I didn't know it at the time...that was 2004.

Since then, I've been working hard to create pretty things to lively up the wardrobes of those who crave color, love the luxury of handmade, and hate to look like everybody else. I love my job!

I named my business after my paternal great-great-grandmother, Holland Cox, who was the first person in my family to set foot on American soil. She was also a master seamstress, back when sewing was a critical life skill and not just a hobby. She taught her daughter-in-law (my great grandmother Clevie Turnage) to sew and quilt, and I feel incredibly lucky to own several quilts made by Clevie and her Winterville, North Carolina sewing circle. They are in excellent shape and extremely cozy!

The very first Holland Cox handbag was designed to be small on the outside and large on the inside. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for at the mall, so I made my own. I hate to see stylish ladies lugging around huge ugly bags, but I know it's hard to locate a handbag that's small and cute but can handle more than a set of keys and a lipstick. Hence all Holland Cox items are designed to be stylish and ladylike, but with roomy interiors to carry the daily essentials. You won't believe what can fit into your Holland Cox bag!

As a designer, I favor curves, petite shapes and clean lines. I love accessories that are bright and fun, and I certainly don't want to look like everybody else, and I know you don't either. That's why I strive to make every addition to the Holland Cox collection something that's just a little different; something you won't find anywhere else. All the handbags are one-of-a-kind, and the accessories are always limited edition. Shopping for fabric is one of my all-time favorite activities, so new colorways for the accessories and new fabrics for custom orders are always being added!
